HISTORY AND OVERVIEW
Fairwinds Christian School is a ministry of Fairwinds Baptist Church. It is owned and operated by Fairwinds Baptist Church. We exist to serve families that are interested in a Christian Education.
Founded in 1972, Fairwinds Christian School serves a diverse student population from the New Castle County area. Our Daycare program cares for children 6 weeks old into their 3rd year. Our School program begins with a 3 year old pre-kindergarten program and goes through 12th grade.
Fairwinds Christian School has a commitment to quality education. Foundationally, Fairwinds Christian School strives to establish in the minds of students that the Bible is the final authority for life.
Most students are Delaware residents and are transported to the school by the parents. The school, church, soccer field, and three softball fields are located on a fifteen-acre plot in Bear, Delaware.
Fairwinds Christian School is a member of the Delaware Association of Christian Schools. (DACS)
FCS was founded in 1972 by Dr. E.L. Britton, the founding Pastor of Fairwinds Baptist Church. As the public school system made the decision to remove prayer and the Bible from the classroom, Dr. Britton understood the long term effects of a God-less education. He knew that in order for families to have a Biblical world view, they needed an education that included God and, in fact, was based on Godly Principles. So God called dedicated and capable teachers from the Church who were of like mind. They stepped up to meet the challenge and God richly blessed their efforts. The school started with Kindergarten through 7th grade and continued to grow into what it is today - a daycare with children from 6 weeks to 3 years of age and the school with grades PK3 through 12th grade.
To assist parents in the local church in the task of training young people to their fullest potential spiritually, academically, physically, and socially.
Fairwinds Christian School promotes a Bible based philosophy that guides young people in developing a consistent and fruitful testimony which will impact a constantly changing world.
All faculty members are born-again believers and most are members of Fairwinds Baptist Church. They are carefully selected based on education, experience, ability, and integrity. The teachers at Fairwinds Christian School are committed to Christian education, are devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ, and have a sincere love for children.
Fairwinds Christian School is a traditional school with grades PK3 to 12th grade. All of the subjects are teacher instructed and guided. Our school provides a college preparatory curriculum using primarily A Beka and Bob Jones text materials.
Students can participate in a variety of student activities such as inter-scholastic sports, drama, music, and yearbook. A full-scale drama or musical is presented twice each year.
Available sports for grades 6-12 include junior varsity and varsity levels. Current sports include volleyball, soccer, basketball, and cheerleading.
The computer lab offers training in computer applications, keyboarding, and computer literacy. Students are taught under a Microsoft Windows environment using modern software. Currently there are about 100 computers in the school for student's and teacher's use. Students of Fairwinds Christian School meet the requirements for Delaware computer literacy by 8th grade.

The concepts of our philosophy of education are derived from the Bible and include the following:
The Bible, the divinely inspired Word of God, is our authority for faith and conduct.
Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word of God, is our theme and subject.
All things in heaven and in earth, visible and invisible, were created by the sovereign God and revealed in the Holy Bible.
God created man in His own image, as a spiritual, mental and physical being.
Man by his disobedience to the divine command marred the image of God beyond his own ability to repair it.
Through the creative act of God all men are brothers regardless of race, color, and national origin.
Man, though a spiritual, mental and physical being, is essentially one; all efforts in his behalf must acknowledge this basic unity and the interaction of every attribute.
A personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, justifies a man before God and begins that restoration of the image of God that is completed by Him in heaven.
The desire for truth, finding truth, and learning truth glorifies God.
All truth is God's truth; and as we strive to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Jesus Christ, with the humility of finite man, the larger understandings that are developed establish the compatibility of Biblical revelation with that of all of other areas of knowledge.
Every Christian is to glorify God in and through the vocation to which God has called him.
God commands respect for and obedience to human authorities.
Until our Lord returns in power and glory, it is the responsibility of His disciples to occupy every vocational and cultural area, even as social and political institutions continue to deteriorate.
The Christian response to all forms of artistic endeavor must also be to the glory of God.
The human body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and is to be cared for and used to His glory.
All believers are united by their commitment to Christ as Savior.
Parents are responsible to God for the education of their children, and that the Christian school is obligated to support and complement the Christian training in the godly home.
